Hello, I'm Vanessa Reiser, a licensed clinical social worker, author, Ironman athlete, and survivor of narcissistic abuse. As a therapist, I have dedicated my life to raising awareness for narcissistic abuse. I have run across NY, NJ, MA, CT, and RI in a wedding dress for narcissistic abuse.

Vanessa Reiser's Bio

Vanessa Reiser is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), licensed in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Florida. She is a psychotherapist and the founder of the nonprofit, TellaTherapist.org. Vanessa is a long-distance runner and two-time Ironman who is best known for running the state of New York (285 miles in 11 days) in a wedding dress to raise awareness for narcissistic abuse. She is also a survivor of narcissistic abuse. As a psychotherapist in private practice, Vanessa now specializes in narcissistic personality disorder and her practice focuses on treating victims and survivors of cults, narcissists, domestic violence, and narcissistic abuse. Her insights are both personal and professional, giving her a unique lens into this insidious form of domestic abuse.

Vanessa holds a bachelor’s degrees in political science and government from SUNY Empire State college and a Master of Social Work (MSM) from the University of Southern California. She sits on the panel for the Narcissistic Abuse Awareness Alliance (NAAA), an invite-only organization for clinicians specializing in Narcissistic abuse. She is an activist who has sat on the board of Rockland County’s “Center for Safety and Change” in New York, which is a victim-centered non-profit organization offering free programs and services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and other crimes. Vanessa has also served as a patient advocate at Global Healthy Living Foundation in Nyack, New York, where she sought to strengthen awareness around people living with chronic illness and worked to change legislation that would give chronically ill patients better access to care, education, support, advocacy, and patient-centered research.

Vanessa is also a social media influencer, sharing life-changing information that is educational and assessable. She has acquired thousands of followers across various platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and Clubhouse. Vanessa has been interviewed by prestigious news and media outlets like People Magazine

The New York Times, Fox News, and The New York Post.

Starting on May 17, I pounded the pavement through rural landscapes and urban centers, ending in Washington Heights. This epic trek not only tested my physical limits but also raised over $200,000 for survivor services, garnering coverage from outlets like People Magazine and The New York Times.
  • New Jersey: Building on New York's success, I traversed the Garden State in a wedding dress, marking the first-ever such run across NJ. This journey highlighted the prevalence of narcissistic abuse in suburban and urban settings, connecting with local support groups along the way.
  • Massachusetts: My run across the Bay State took me through historic towns like Boston and Worcester, blending colonial charm with modern cityscapes. It emphasized how narcissistic abuse affects diverse communities, from academia to working-class families.
  • Connecticut (2023): Over two days (June 1-2), I ran across the Constitution State, covering its compact yet challenging terrain. This event focused on family court reforms, as narcissistic abusers often weaponize legal systems against survivors.
  • Rhode Island (2025): My most recent run on May 30 spanned about 30 miles across the Ocean State, from its western border to Providence. As the fifth annual Narcissistic Abuse Run, it drew virtual and in-person participants, raising awareness about the "death by a thousand cuts" nature of this abuse.

At Narcissistic Abuse Run, our mission is to raise awareness about narcissistic abuse, empower survivors, and drive systemic change through transformative action. Founded by Vanessa Reiser, a licensed clinical social worker, Ironman athlete, and survivor, we use ultra-marathon runs across states—undertaken in a wedding dress—to symbolize the reclamation of power from the false promises and emotional manipulation of narcissistic abuse. Through these runs, we aim to educate communities, fund specialized support for survivors via Tell A Therapist, and advocate for reforms in systems like family courts that often exacerbate victims’ trauma. By combining physical endurance with advocacy, we strive to break the silence around this insidious form of domestic violence, support healing, and inspire a movement toward a future free from abuse.
